Why It Is Necessary to Save Money

One day, I was listening to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, and he mentioned a scripture I’ve never seen before from a version I rarely read. That is, The Living Bible. That scripture is Proverbs 21:20.

[20] “The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets.”

This scripture opens our eyes to the need to save money as individuals. But here’s something happening in this current world. Many people say that what they earn is not enough to live with. As a result of that, they hardly save money. What a tragedy!

Well, I’m not against their view because it’s a situation they’re facing. But God’s Word is God’s Word. It is Truth despite the changing phases and seasons of this earth. If it says it is wise to save for the future, then that is standard whether you earn a meagre or fat salary. Here are three reasons why it’s necessary to save money.

#1 – To secure financial obligations in the future

As you’ve seen in Proverbs 21:20, saving money is a practice of a wise person. Why? Because he knows that life is not just about today; there’s tomorrow also.

A father whose wife is expecting a child thinks of creating a new way of providing for the upcoming baby in such a way that it won’t end up putting extra constraints on his life and the family. There are other areas of life in which finances are insisted on to ensure things move smoothly. So saving money will secure that financial obligation for your future and others you’re related to.

#2 – To solve emergent problems

Jesus said in Matthew 6:34 [(NKJV) boldfaced mine] that,

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

According to Jesus, every day has its own troubles it comes with. In this high economic world, money is required to solve emergent problems such as hospital bills of accidents, pressing purchases, etc. Imagine you end up in such a situation without any savings. What will you do? That is where most people resort to going for loans and find it hard to pay later on. Dear friend, be wise to save. If possible, create a separate savings account and use it as your emergency account, as Dave Ramsey recommends.

#3 – To work towards your divine mandate

Every visionary person knows that it takes a lot of money to do what they envision in their minds. Even though God provides for believers living to fulfil their calling, one principle such people learn, me inclusive, is to direct funds towards the fulfilment of that vision. Nothing is really free in this world. Therefore, save the money God blesses you with and use it wisely for the progress of Jesus’ mission upon your life.
