Just as You Received Christ

Excerpt

Do you know that no matter how tall a tree grows, its roots remain intact in the ground? In the same way, when you are firmly rooted in the Lord, it will help you stay faithful to Him no matter how high your feat in life gets, either now or in the future.

Colossians 2:6 is personally one of my favourite scriptures anytime I get to minister to God’s people, especially those who are recently born again. It says,

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,”

Colossians 2:6 (NIV)

In this verse, the Apostle Paul was speaking to some believers in Christ at the church in Colossae. He said that since they received Christ by faith in the Lord Jesus, they are to continue living unto Him in that same way. He adds in verse 7 that,

“rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Colossians 2:7 (NIV)

As you can see, God expects you to be well-strengthened in faith and overflowing with thankfulness. If this ministration was so crucial for the Apostle Paul, why do you think He wrote it?

Diversion from the faith

There are so many believers who received Christ by faith. But years into their walk with the Lord, they divert from following Him to chasing after other things. Most of these people switch from the love of God to the love of money to the extent that they stop going to church with the excuse that church time is detrimental to their work time in business. How quickly do they forget that the same God gives them air to breathe and that without Him, they are nothing (see John 15:5)?

When you are firmly rooted in the Lord, it will help you stay faithful to Him no matter how high your feat in life gets, either now or in the future.

Root yourself in God

Yes, life doesn’t get any less busier. As a result, more responsibilities will be added to your life, and it can increase drastically when you get married and start having children. So, the earlier you recognise this, the better. Why? So you can build structures in your life that will help you remain rooted in faith.

Do you know that no matter how tall a tree grows, its roots remain intact in the ground? In the same way, when you are firmly rooted in the Lord, it will help you stay faithful to Him no matter how high your feat in life gets, either now or in the future.

May the Lord help you.
