In the previous Study Scripture article I published, I wrote about giving diligence to your calling by becoming more productive with your divine knowledge of Christ. In today’s Word, I would like to continue that series from 2 Peter 1:10-11, where Peter encourages us to make our calling and election sure in Christ. Let’s read the scripture first.
[10] “Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; [11] for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 1:10-11 (NKJV)
Be even more diligent
In 2 Peter 1:5, Peter said we should exercise diligence in knowing Jesus. But in verse 10, he emphasises it again, this time on our divine callings. Anytime something keeps repeating in scripture, especially around the same area, then that thing is of the utmost importance to God.
From the scripture, receiving a calling in Christ is not enough. Neither is it enough to know you have been elected by grace (as in, God has chosen you in Christ – see Ephesians 1:4). You need diligence to ensure you reach the high calling God has destined you to get. God is wise. Even though He has called many, He has made it in such a way that everyone will start small. Then, diligence in fulfilling the divine mandate by work in Christ separates the called from the chosen.

What happens when a country elects a president, and yet that president fails to govern the country well? He’s voted out of power in the next election. Right? In Christ, God doesn’t cast you away when you fail to make your calling and election sure. He makes sure your salvation is intact. But in administering His purpose on Earth, He will leave you out. That is what Jesus meant when He said in John 15:2 (NKJV) that,
“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit …” – John 15:2 (NIV)
I don’t want God to cut you from His purposes on Earth, or else you may die early so that He will preserve you from the corruption of your flesh. Secondly, you’ll not get any reward in heaven because you don’t have any kingdom work.
God as a wise businessperson. He supplies more grace to the diligent so He can do many more things through him because of that person’s faithfulness.
“… An entrance will be supplied to you abundantly”
This is the glorious part of the scripture, but for those who obey what’s written from the beginning. So, if you give diligence to make your calling an election sure, the Bible says, “… an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” You may think that scripture is about working to prove to God that you are worthy of entering heaven. But it’s not so.
According to the Biblical lexicon, that verse means that you’ll do more exploits in the kingdom of Jesus Christ than an ordinary believer will ever be able to. From this, I see God as a wise businessperson. He supplies more grace to the diligent so He can do many more things through him because of that person’s faithfulness. No wonder Jesus said in Luke 16:10 (NKJV) that,
[10] “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.”
If you want to experience expansion in your life, just be more diligent with what you are called to do. The more you do it, the more God will expand your territory of influence.
Grace be with you!
