In the last study scripture article, I spoke about how God is about to punish false prophets and preachers who are moving around and using His name to do deviant things. In today’s edition, I want to highlight this topic more using the subsequent verses in that same epistle. Take today’s article as part 2 of the last article. Now, let’s dive in.

Verse 15

“They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;”

2 Peter 2:15 (NKJV)

In this verse, Apostle Peter throws more light on the paths these false prophets and teachers have chosen to take, likening their paths to prophet Balaam, the son of Beor in the Old Testament. The Bible says Balaam loved the wages of unrighteousness. But what did he do that made Peter write this about him? It is that simple. King Balak hired him to prophesy and curse against Israel. Although he ended up blessing the Israelites, his heart became corrupt when he obsessed about the honour the king wanted to give him (see Numbers 22-23).

You cannot deceive God with your actions. He knows your heart.

It is the same way of life some false men of God had chosen today. Being obsessed with money, they do all kinds of evil things to get something to amass wealth to themselves. What a shame!

Verse 16

[16] “but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.”

2 Peter 2:16 (NKJV)

Please read that verse again. God opened the mouth of the donkey to rebuke Balaam’s growing iniquity (corruptedness at heart) when he was on his way to meet King Balak. At that time, Balaam had committed no physical sin. But God saw that his heart had been corrupted by his desire to get the wealth Balak promised him. God knows your heart and thoughts. He knows it when you think lustfully towards any woman you see, when you view porn in the secret of your room and when you scam others on the internet. You cannot deceive God with your actions. He knows your heart.

Verse 17

[17] “These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.”

2 Peter 2:17 (NKJV)

When you choose to follow the ways of Balaam as a minister of God, you’ll fail to give life to those you minister to. Your life will become a well without water, clouds carried by a tempest and for whom your life will be judged in eternal damnation if you don’t repent. God’s ministry is a holy calling. Please don’t mix it up with evil schemes.

You are a blessing!
