In the last study scripture article release, I spoke about how believers ought to beware of false prophets. But in today’s release, continuing from the same chapter, this time, from verses 4 to 8, I will be talking about verse judgment of false teachers of the like in the body of Christ and how, as a believer, you should live mindful of these, so you’ll not join them in their deception. Let’s take a look at the scripture.
[4] “For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; [5] and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; [6] and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; [7] and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked [8] (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)”
2 Peter 2:4-8 (NKJV)
God did not spare the angels who sinned
The doctrine concerning how God cast down some angels when they sinned has not been so emphasised in many sermons these days. Why? It’s a little hard to find in the Bible since it’s not written in Genesis. Ezekiel 28:14-17 gives a clear picture of how Lucifer sinned and got cast to the Earth, but the angels who rebelled with him wasn’t written there. That is indirectly written in Revelation 12:4, where it is written about how much the devil launched spiritual attacks on Mary in the Spirit realm. God didn’t spare angels who sinned. How much more false teachers? Hmm!
You can live righteously before God in this perverse generation. Purge your life of all forms of worldliness.

God did not spare the ancient world
There is one Earth but many worlds in it. The word “world” in scripture usually talks about different times people ever lived on the face of this Earth. So, in 2 Peter 2:5, where Peter spoke about God not sparing the ancient world, he was talking about how God wiped off the human race that lived in Noah’s time except for Noah and his family. Those people were sinning greatly, to the extent that God regretted that He created humans (see Genesis 6:5-6).
When humans sin, it really infuriates God. I believe the ongoing sins in this generation are far worse than those committed by the people who lived in Noah’s time. But one thing that hasn’t made God wipe out the human race was the declaration He made when Noah offered a sacrifice unto Him that He won’t destroy the Earth with water again (see Genesis 8:21). Nevertheless, the second coming of Jesus is near, and God will judge the Earth. So live clean before Him.
Turning Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes
What about Sodom and Gomorrah? See how God rained down burning sulphur on those two cities – Genesis 19:23. It really tells us that God is omnipresent, and although people sin, when a person’s cup of immorality is full, He will judge him. You cannot outsmart God. He knows you very well.
God delivered righteous Lot
God delivered Lot, who stayed righteous, even amid perverted Sodom. That means you can live righteously before God in this perverse generation. Purge your life of all forms of worldliness.
