Live Wisely in this Perverse Generation

I got born again after a thrilling encounter with the Lord in 2016 while in school. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of having like-minded believers in my friends for years. Because of the love I received from such friends, I had an issue thinking that what the Bible said in Galatians 1:4, that we live in an evil age, is actually true. At the time of this writing, I’m twenty-three, having graduated from school and now in the world as a worker encountering people with diverse evil thoughts. I then realised that evil is really present in this world. I began to prioritise learning how to live wisely in this perverse generation. Today, if I am alive, it is God I give praise to. I am glad to share with you some insights on how to live with people wisely, especially as a visionary person serving the Lord.

Not everyone loves you

I understand this statement can be hard for you to take especially if you’ve grown up in a godly family where love is abundant. But take it seriously. Not every single person in this world loves you. You can’t change this reality, dear believer. Jesus affirmed in John 15:18 that because we are His followers, the world will hate us. However, just because not everyone loves you doesn’t mean you should love some people and hate others. No! Love everyone, including your enemies (see Matthew 5:42).

I believe you can shorten the time you’ll accomplish some dreams God puts in your heart when you nurture them secretly and avoid sharing them in the wrong environment

Be wise in how you think

Even though you must love everyone, it doesn’t mean you should share details of your life with everyone whom you think that he loves you. For marriage, it is different. Why? Because God desires complete transparency in every godly marriage, so much so that each spouse will feel secure in each other’s lives. But apart from that, not everyone deserves to know every detail of your life, including some believers.

Learn to engage God privately about matters concerning your life and stop depending on people to always encourage you. Only God is dependable and not man.

Nurture your vision in God

In Romans 8:28 (KJV), the Bible says,

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

That means God knows every mistake you will ever make in your life. Guess what? He calculated everything in His plan for your life and still gave you that vision.

Imagine Joseph’s life. God gave him two dreams about his future but never told him to share them with his family. He thought sharing with his family was no big deal. Eventually, that act generated evil for him among his brothers and later ended him in Egypt as a slave. Although God prospered him in that land, he could have lost his life on that land. From this, I believe you can shorten the time you’ll accomplish some dreams God puts in your heart when you nurture them secretly and avoid sharing them in the wrong environment.

Let me tell you something profound. Many people live visionless lives, so when a person of vision starts speaking, their inner sense of insecurity awakens, and they hate you for having what they don’t have. Be careful who, where and when you share your vision with people except the team you work with.

Mingle with like-minded believers

When Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that Jesus would be born through her, he told her about Elisabeth’s case to stir up her faith. No wonder she got up and went to live with her for three months. There is a powerful mystery to learn here. When you walk with like-minded believers of vision, your vision will also get stirred. Dear Christian CEO, you need other believing CEOs as your friends to talk to about vision. Dear Christian visionary, you need trusted team members on your board to speak life into what God has called you to do. Guard the kinds of friends you keep in your circle.

Commit yourself to God

Furthermore, learn to commit yourself to God in every endeavour of your life. Sometimes, you’ll only experience the wickedness in man’s heart when an offence breaks out.

Learn of Jesus. The same people who hailed Him for His good works also supported His crucifixion. Invest in people and let them earn your trust based on how they’ll behave as time passes.

Work towards the fulfilment of your vision

Lastly, keep focusing on what God has called you to do. Don’t ever stop working on your dreams with the right people. Cover the process from outsiders and expose it to your team who work on it. May God guide you and give you a great life.
