The Reliable Prophetic Message – 2 Peter 1 v 19-21

Excerpt

Jesus is the reliable prophetic message that is spoken about in 2 Peter 1:19-21. His Word is dependable. He’s not like men who say one thing and do another. No! Jesus, being faithful, will never flaunt His Word concerning your life.

In the last study scripture article, I spoke about how we believers have believed in a true gospel and not cunningly devised fables. Today, by God’s special mercies, I am writing to you from the continuation of that same chapter from the second epistle of Peter, this time, from verses 19-21, which the Apostle Peter teaches on the reliable prophetic message about Christ. Let’s delve deeper.

Verse 19

“We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” — 2 Peter 1:19 (NIV)

The reading of 2 Peter 1:19 gives a clear interpretation of the article. In the preceding verses before this verse, Peter spoke about Jesus having received honour and glory from the Father when a voice came from Him saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (see 2 Peter 1:17, Matthew 3:17). So, Jesus is the reliable prophetic message that is spoken about in the verse above. His Word is dependable. He’s not like men who say one thing and do another. No! Jesus, being faithful, will never flaunt His Word concerning your life. But there is something to do.

The Scripture, 2 Peter 1:19, continues to say, “… you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place…”. That means it is not enough to merely believe that Jesus is the reliable prophetic message; you must pay more earnest attention to His Words. That is a problem for many. Why? Because many people don’t spend adequate time to be with Jesus and study His Word. Did you know that there are even several preachers who know how to preach so well yet don’t spend enough time to delve deeper into the Word to prepare their sermons? We live in a dark age saturated by a lot of filthy information. It is the divine light from the Word that will guide you.

Verse 20

“Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things.” – 2 Peter 1:20 (NIV)

Anytime there is a prophecy, many people fume about it because of the lies and controversies surrounding the prophetic ministry. Yes, there are false prophets in this generation. But it doesn’t mean every prophet is false. Get that straight in your mind!

In 2 Peter 1:20, the Bible tells us that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. That means there is no prophecy in the Bible that has a fault in interpretation in Scripture. And since the testimony of Christ, that is, the Word, is the spirit of prophecy (see Revelation 19:10), the Bible is an error-free book, regardless of what men say. If anybody tells you there are contradictions in the Bible, it’s by his own interpretation and not by the Holy Spirit. Don’t believe that person. Let the Holy Spirit guide you to study the Bible well.

The Bible is an error-free book, regardless of what men say.

Verse 21

“For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” – 2 Peter 1:21 (NIV)

To add up to what is written in 2 Peter 1:20, prophecies in Scripture are inspired by God. Every servant of God who wrote any portion of the Bible submitted to God’s leading to write. The words may be written by them, but they are sourced from God. Therefore, believe in the Word, for it is the truth!

You are a blessing!
