When God Puts You In A Hiding Season

“For everyone God uses, He hides for a season.”

I first heard this statement from my pastor, Rev. Justice Osei Kwadwo Agyemang, in 2020 during the Covid-19 period. It was a season when the whole world came to a standstill as countries were imposing lockdowns on citizens and restricting their movements.

During that year, I remember reading more Christian books than I’ve ever had in my entire life. Till today, there hasn’t been a year I’ve read more books than in 2020. Why? Because I hardly get time to be alone and not go anywhere as I had during the Covid-19 period. However, I came out of that season spiritually refreshed and more knowledgeable about God’s Word. And that has helped me till today.

Some Christians and business people were also discerning to use that period wisely. And till today, their efforts are reaping massive benefits. What am I saying?

God has reasons for hiding you for a season in your life. It can come as temporary unemployment after school, being sick for a while, or getting laid off from work unexpectedly.

While God doesn’t bring misfortunes to people, He always uses such happenings for their benefit. However, it takes discernment to perceive the spiritual reasons for every season in your life.

Today, I want to teach two things God can use your life to do when He puts you in a hiding season.

1. Birthing and nurturing your divine vision

You cannot birth your vision when there’s noise all around you. That is why every visionary person gets more ideas when he thinks during their times of loneliness. That is why it’s inappropriate for married couples to have sex anywhere apart from their private room. Why? Because their sexually intimate moments must be secret in order to produce a baby.

When God wants to make you a world changer, He will usually allow some things to happen in your life that will lead you to be alone in His presence. It happened to Abraham, Moses, Elijah, Jacob, Joseph, John the Baptist, Paul and even Jesus. There are many more characters in the Bible that similar things happened to them.

Before God made Abraham into a great nation, He told him to leave his father’s abode (Genesis 12:1). Moses was alone in the wilderness when He encountered God (Exodus 3:1-2). Same for Jacob (Genesis 28:12-13) and Joseph. What about Paul? He wrote most of his letters filled with deep spiritual insights when he was alone in prison.

We never heard of Jesus’ life from age 12 to 30. Why? It was God’s season of preparation. Can you imagine Jesus at age 29 not working? If it were to be today, many people would have laughed at his unemployment. But today, we’re still beneficiaries of the price of sin He paid on the cross.

It’s in your hiding period that God can manifest Himself to you in such a way that You cannot doubt Him. Do you know why so many lives aren’t transformed in churches today? It’s because they are too busy looking for money in the world of work that they don’t have time for God.

Who you are in secret is more important than who people perceive you to be.

Dear worker, taking leaves from work should serve as an opportunity to connect deeper with God, not to watch movies, eat overly at home and sleep for long hours. Cut out your spending habits and excessive travels to have time with God alone. It’s where He’ll give you a vision that will change your life direction forever.

2. Developing your character

Who you are in secret is more important than who people perceive you to be. You can have a great ministry and yet have a bad character.

No matter how great your divine gift or vision is, it depends on your character to sustain it. Else, it’ll crush you because possessing a divine vision without good character makes you a threat to God’s reputation.

God doesn’t want anybody to disgrace Him. That’s why He can delay your season of manifestation so that your heart will get anchored in Him, not your achievements, knowledge or certificates.

When God puts you in a hiding season, He speaks to you and trains your character through intimacy with the Holy Spirit before releasing you to shine in the world. Don’t be in a rush to show off. There are several evil people who have vowed to end your life if you get to the top. So lean on God for His protection and guidance.

Divine seasons of hiding are for your preparation (character training) and protection (from falling off the ladder of greatness). Don’t abuse it. Be intimate with the Lord, and humble yourself under His mighty hand. In His time, He will lift you.
