In life, food is very, very important. Your body would not be as it is today if you had not been fed since infancy. Right? But over the years, things have changed in this world. Food has become not just what a person eats physically but also anything a person consumes, especially the media content. Because of this alarming thing going on, I decided to pen down this article with inspiration from Daniel 1:8. Before I begin, take a look at the Bible verse.
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” — Daniel 1:8 (NKJV)
Choose what to eat, see and hear
Daniel, like other Israelites, was one of those exiled into Babylon, having lost a war against it. He was a slave. But the king wanted some fine Israelites to serve in the palace, so he ordered to fetch some people, which Daniel was inclusive of. They were supposed to eat the general Babylonian food given to them as they underwent training for three years. But Daniel, together with Hananiah (known by many as Shadrach), Mishael (known by many as Mesach) and Azariah (known by many as Abednego), requested that their food be different. Guess what? Within just ten days, these four people appeared brighter than the rest of those chosen. What a mystery!
It’s good to celebrate their success. But what they did to achieve that ought to be considered very highly. They chose what to eat, and today, you must do the same. You must check your diet, dear Christian. If you don’t want your life to be normal, what you hear, see (consume over the media) and hear must be well defined. You cannot eat junk food daily and expect to be physically healthy over time. You can’t be watching pornography and think your God’s view on sex won’t get distorted in your mind. Also, you can’t keep listening to secular music and think that your life as a child of God won’t be adversely affected. Hey, child of God, check your diet!

Your life matters to God
You’ll become what you consume. It’s that simple. In other words, what you keep eating, watching and hearing will heavily influence your life, both in thought patterns and physicality. Your life matters so much to God. That is why He has made provisions for you to live well unto Him.
If you take His Word seriously, you’ll be transformed by the renewing of your mind (see Romans 12:2). And if you fellowship with the Spirit constantly, you will definitely know God better. I pray that the Lord will help you continually choose what is pleasing before Him to do.
You are a blessing!
