Streaks for Doing Good — Aim High Through Consistency

Excerpt

As scripture says in Galatians 6:9, you need not grow weary of doing good. That means you must aim high and be consistent with your streaks for doing good. But that also means that there is a lot of opposition on that path of life, some coming from people you never imagined could misbehave towards you.

Have you ever wondered why some organisations exist and continue to make an impact year after year? It’s because of many factors. However, one of those factors that stands out is consistency. Consistency is the driving force behind anything genius in this world. And God knows it. That is why He inspired Paul to write in Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) that,

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

The question is, why is this in the Word? Doing good to people is common. But having streaks for doing good that you update daily (through conscious good deeds) is hard to find. Today, many people don’t like staying on one thing for long. It’s found in how people switch jobs, move from one ministry to another (in the name of exploring new environments), express dissatisfaction with one thing after a few months of getting used to it, etc. That has made consistency a very rare trait in people. However, in this article, I want to narrow down specifically to doing good deeds to people.

You need the anointing.

Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith, scripture says in Hebrews 12:2. So, He is our role model in Christianity. One of the things He was noted for doing during His few years of ministry on Earth was His consistent acts of doing good despite all the opposition He faced. In Acts 10:38 (NKJV), the Bible says,

“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”

From the verse above, we realise that Jesus didn’t do all that He was doing by His own strength but by the anointing. So, if you and I are to follow His steps, then we also need the anointing of God in our lives. The good news is that because the Holy Spirit dwells in each believer (see Romans 8:9), every child of God has God’s anointing in him (see 1 John 2:27). The problem is that many are using this anointing to work. God can give you something, but you decide whether (and how) to use it or not.

Consistency is the driving force behind anything genius in this world.

Growing weary of doing good?

Sometimes, you may be using the anointing to keep loving people and doing good. But all of a sudden, you hit a roadblock. Maybe someone does a terrible thing to you after years of making that person’s life better. Or a person repays evil for all the good you’ve done. Yes, it happens. Ingratitude is one of the most common behavioural flaws in this generation, and I’m not surprised because it is part of the long list of bad attitudes of people in the last days, as written in 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

As scripture says in Galatians 6:9, you need not grow weary of doing good. That means you must aim high and be consistent with your streaks for doing good. But that also means that there is a lot of opposition on that path of life, some coming from people you never imagined could misbehave towards you. People change, and many usually forget the good deeds other people do to help them, while remembering the negatives other people do more frequently. So, humans are unpredictable. If you are going to keep pressing on to obey God’s commands, you must be strong because it won’t be easy.

Have your eyes on your heavenly reward.

Sometimes, when you look at the constant negative feedback you receive for all the good work you do, you’ll give up. In fact, many people have stopped or halted certain projects that could have benefited millions of people because they didn’t receive welcoming feedback from others when they launched out fresh. I’ve realised that looking to people for encouragement can be disappointing. Only God can empower you to keep going forward.

According to the ending parts of Galatians 6:9, there is an assured season of reaping all the harvest of good works. But that season is only known to God. You cannot predict it by your sense of judgment. So, the best thing to do is to keep doing good, and when your time is up for harvest, God will show up in your case.
