Insurance – Should Christians Pay for It or Not?

I was born and bred in a middle-income family, where everything my parents earned was used to cater for the home. There were no special savings for kids. So, if even that was missing, how much to talk about insurance? I never knew something like that existed till I grew up to around age 13. I think I heard that term in Junior High School first. My teachers did a great job of educating the whole class about it. But none of us took it so seriously because we were kids and didn’t know how to think about our future. Today, as I write this article, I’m an adult by the grace of God. As a visionary person and leader of The Bible Daily Network, I think more about the future impact of my decisions. And one day, I thought about insurance.

As a child of God taught by able ministers of grace that God is our protector, it became challenging to consider paying for insurance. It wasn’t because I didn’t have money to do it. I didn’t see the worth of its subscription since it’s been fused in my Spirit that God protects me. After careful consideration of the theme, I decided to study it in the scriptures. Today, I’m glad to write an answer I got from the study. Let’s dive in.

… In this world, you will have tribulation [John 16:33 (NKJV)]

Jesus promised us, the New Testament believers, many things. We have the promise of the Holy Spirit being fulfilled, the giftings of the Spirit, the fruit of the Spirit and more, all in the New Testament. But Jesus never promised us that we’d have a problem-free life. He said in John 16:33 that we will have tribulation in this world. “Tribulation,” used in the scripture above, means pressure, persecution or trouble. So, it’s clear that no believer is insulated from encountering problems. Some may be financially demanding to solve; some may not.

However, insurance companies exist to help cushion people in terrible situations financially. If you, as a believer, don’t pay for insurance and you run into trouble – say the death of a loved one, which requires huge sums of money to organise the funeral, you cannot go to any insurance company to get money to sort out your problem. That is why many people have resorted to borrowing money from people and find it hard to pay, destroying relationships because of a lack of integrity and trusteeship.

Dear friend, you’re not wiser than Jesus. He has prophesied that you will encounter challenges in life. So never think nothing evil cannot happen to you. It will. But the good news is that if He is your anchor, you’ll not fret. Insurance becomes the best solution for financial cushion in those moments.

Insurance is very important

Paying for your insurance is like saving money for a rainy day; it is very important. Scripture encourages us to save money (see The Living Bible Translation of Proverbs 21:20). So when you pay for insurance, see it as saving money for future use only retrievable in dire conditions of life. Unlike a bank, you can cash out your money at any time. For insurance, you cannot do that. So, for building terrific financial security for your future, consider subscribing to flexible insurance, especially for your house, car and health.

Be of good cheer

Lastly, I want to encourage you that in as much as insurance provides security, see it as part of your responsibility. Just pay it while living a joy-filled life in the Holy Spirit. Be of good cheer, for Jesus has overcome the world.
