The Expanse Benefits of Giving

I grew up in an environment where people loved to talk about giving. And they didn’t only focus mainly on monetary giving but also other things like clothes and some basic life necessities. But rarely did they expound to me the benefits of its practice thereof, except for the blessings that will get reaped in the future. Today, I’m glad to share with you the expanse benefits of giving. Are you ready? Please read on.

#1 You’ll reap what you sow

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:6 (NKJV) that,

“… He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”

The verse above clearly tells us that what you sow directly affects what you reap. If you sow haphazardly, you’ll get haphazard results; likewise, if you sow bountifully, you’ll get bountiful results. So when you give, you’re sowing seeds to people’s lives. And the more and better you sow, the higher your quality of results. That verse may have been used to speak about giving financially in ministry, but I see it as a more general principle that cuts across every endeavour in life. You’ll definitely reap what you sow, but more than what you sow. So give well and out of a sincere heart, and God will reward you.

#2 You’ll find joy in helping people in need

I once watched a sermon by Pastor Isaac Oyedopo on YouTube about giving. And he did an illustration which struck me very much. Here it goes.

Do a simple fist on your hand for about ten seconds. Then release it and touch your cheeks with it. How does it feel? So warm, right? That’s how you become when you refuse to give or be a blessing to others.

You’ll find joy when you help others in need. And because God desires people to receive help, He won’t stop blessing you with more than enough. Why? Because He knows you’ll help others when you have more.

#3 You’ll have a long life when you honour your parents

Ephesians 6:2-3 (NKJV) says,

[2] “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: [3] “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

‘Honour’ in the above verse doesn’t necessarily mean supporting your parent monetarily. It goes beyond that. Giving to your parents is a form of honour. And when you do so, there’s a promise that you’ll live long. So whether your parents are wealthy or not, as a believer in Christ, just honour them. No parent is genuinely interested in every money his child gets. He, the parent, will feel proud when he sees his child become responsible. Let love lead.

Now, after reading all these, you may say, “I don’t have enough to give to others.” Let me tell you something. Having a more-than-enough lifestyle begins in your mind. Can you lay hold on that, pray with it and allow God to transform your life? It is possible. Just believe.

You’re a blessing.
