Has God promised you something, and it feels like it’s taking forever to fulfil it? Don’t worry. You are not alone. A lot of believers around the world are going through that situation. But the Bible says that the Lord is not slack concerning His promise (see 2 Peter 3:9), and we will delve deeper into this in today’s edition of the study-scripture articles.
Verse 8 – Time doesn’t limit God.
“But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” – 2 Peter 3:8 (NKJV)
Before the Apostle Peter said in 2 Peter 3:9 that the Lord is not slack concerning His promise, he wanted to let everyone, including you and me, know that time doesn’t limit God. In 2 Peter 3:8, the Bible says that with God, one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Come to think of this. It looks like an ambiguous statement. Mathematics can’t explain this phenomenon because that’s how it is. God cannot be explained by Mathematics. That is why science can only confirm God’s existence and not disregard Him.
But how does this apply to us? Well, here’s the truth. Your human calculations of how God works will never be able to predict all of God’s doings in your life accurately. Some of the things you pray for may take longer than you imagined. Other times, God may fulfil a promise He made to you quite faster than you can imagine. Don’t limit God by your human calculations. Things don’t work that way.
Verse 9 — Develop an Enduring Spirit
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)
Now, the verse above actually explains what Peter was saying more clearly. He was speaking about the second coming of Christ. Actually, some believers at that time thought Jesus’ coming was so near. They didn’t know it would take over 2000 years. So, they endured the suffering, believing that Jesus would come soon to end their woes. Were they mistaken? Oh yes.
The second coming of Christ has not fully manifested because God is long-suffering towards humanity, not willing that any should perish (end in hell) but that all should come to repentance. Oh, what a merciful God. The reason He keeps sending more kingdom labourers to the harvest field is because He wants people to repent. Don’t you get it? As a believer, you have a part to play. You must preach the gospel. Don’t condemn people living in sin. No! Lead them to Christ. That will help them to escape hell!
You are a blessing!
