Delight Yourself In The Lord

“Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalms 37:4 (NKJV)

Do you have some unmet needs that are in your heart? I suppose you do. I also have. But many times, we work so hard to get these desires met by our own means instead of submitting them to the Lord to meet them at His timetable for our individual lives.

Here’s the truth. Scarcity will never end in our world. No matter how many possessions you have, you’ll always long for more. Why? Because inner satisfaction is not in how many things you possess. That’s what Jesus meant when He said, “… life doesn’t consist of the abundance of things” (Luke 12:15).

How God Gives Our Heart Desires

In Psalm 37:4, David shows us how God shall give us the desires of our hearts. It’s simply by delighting ourselves in Him. But what does it mean to do that?

The word “delight,” used in Psalm 37:4, means “to be soft or pliable.” So to delight yourself in the Lord means to become malleable for the fulfilment of His purpose through you. You can only do that by submitting yourself – body, mind, will and decisions to Him.

However, that doesn’t mean God will imprison you in His service. No! He’ll make you enjoy your freedom in Christ while giving you a meaningful life worth living. There are so many things God wants to do to expand His kingdom on earth. But He’s always looking for a yielding vessel. Will you be one today?
