Why Should I Go To Church Regularly?

Have you asked yourself these questions: Why should I go to church? Why should I worship God? Don’t I have the freedom to use my life for what I want? Probably you were raised in a Christian home, where attending church service, especially on Sundays, was a culture. So you grew up seeing everything done in church as a set of activities without seeking to know why they were done.

Before writing this article, I did a Bible study on why as believers, we should go to church. Not because I wanted to write something about it, but because I had to get concrete answers to this question from the Bible since I had nobody giving me any reasonable explanation. Today, I’m glad to share my findings with you through this medium.

1. To connect to God in fellowship

The most profound reason why you should go to church as a Christian is to have fellowship with God. God wants to be worshipped in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). And I understand you can connect to Him in your closet. However, that does not eliminate the importance of coming before His presence in corporate worship. In Hebrews 10:25 (NKJV), the Bible says,

“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

From the verse above, you must make it a priority to be in church for corporate fellowship anytime you get the opportunity. That means you ought to treat your church attendance as a necessity in your walk with God, not because others are watching you, but because God’s manifold presence will be present in the service to minister to you.

2. To connect with the brethren in Christ

We live in an evil world ( see Galatians 1:4, 1 John 5:19). And because of that, anytime we’re not in church, we are exposed to all kinds of things in life, both good and evil. So when we come to church, we meet the people of God with whom we share our faith. And by constant communication and fellowship with one another, we build safe connections and friendships, some of which are bound to be life-lasting.

My best friends are found in my ministry and local church because that is where I belong to people whose minds are Christ-centred. If you claim to be in the light of God as He is, have fellowship with one another (1 John 1:7).

You don’t become a spiritual giant in the Lord overnight. As the Word of God gets preached in church and you receive it, you’ll mature spiritually, become gradually transformed by God to fulfil your purpose and also become all that He created you to be.

3. To receive spiritual nourishment for our spiritual growth

Do you know your current body size didn’t appear like that overnight? Your parents kept feeding you, and you also kept eating till you grew up.

Using this scenario as an example, you don’t become a spiritual giant in the Lord overnight. As the Word of God gets preached in church and you receive it, you’ll mature spiritually, become gradually transformed by God to fulfil your purpose and also become all that He created you to be.

4. To serve in the house of God

Service in God’s kingdom can be done anywhere, especially with the rise of remote work. However, there are things you can do to help your church only when you’re physically present. For example, arranging chairs for service is a kingdom service. But you can only do it when you come to church. With this understanding, attend church also, to serve God.

There are so many benefits of serving in God’s house. You may not know how what you do contributes to the work in the body of Christ. But I urge you to be faithful to God’s call, no matter which area or department you serve.

You’re a blessing.
