Three digital tools to help you study the Bible

Aside from prayer, Bible study is one of the core spiritual disciplines every Christian must cultivate in his life. In the early church days, believers didn’t have Bibles as we do. Many of them gathered around the temple occasionally to listen to the public reading of scripture and disperse.

Today, the Bible is so close to us that it’s even available on our devices for free. However, many people aren’t taking advantage of this, not because they don’t want to, but because they don’t have much information about using these digital tools. In this blog, I would like to walk you through three digital tools to help you study the Bible, as they’ve been of much help to me.

1. Olive Tree Bible App

Olive Tree Bible App is one of my favourite Bible applications. It’s available on Android, iOS and Microsoft Store (for desktop computers).

While some Bible versions and books in the app are available for sale, some free ones are helpful for detailed Bible Study. Two of them I use are the New International Version (NIV) Bible and New King James Version (NKJV) Bible. You can download them on the app by searching their names in the in-app Bible library.

Now there’s a common feature in these two Bible translations that I found helpful. That is the superscript alphabet and letters, just like the one in the image below (desktop version screenshot).

When a user clicks on any of the alphabets, it opens the Study Centre in-app window to show you clickable related Bible verses to help you understand the verse better. Take a look.

Based on my experience, it’s available on the NIV and NKJV Bible versions only. It could be on other Bible versions in the app. So you can check it out, suppose you don’t use these two Bible versions I’ve mentioned.

As those scriptures connect you deeper to the Word, don’t forget to pray and take study notes as you study along. You can also browse other features in the app as well.

2. MySword Bible App

The second tool I consider very powerful for Bible Study is the MySword Bible app. It’s a free software project available for only Android users. It used to be on Google Play Store. But for unknown reasons, it’s no longer there. Users can only download it on their website here or get it from a friend who has it through Android app-sharing platforms like Xender or blue tooth.

With MySword Bible, there are several Bible versions you can compare scriptures. But most importantly, it’s the King James Version Strong’s Concordance that’s very useful. Take a look below

The app gives you the Strong’s concordance meaning to almost every word in the King James Bible, verse by verse. Using it makes it easy to understand specific words in the Bible. Give it a try today, but please note that it’s for only Android devices.

3. YouVersion Bible App

Last but not least Bible Study tool is the YouVersion Bible app. It’s currently the highest downloaded and used Bible application on mobile devices, both Android and iOS.

It has several useful features, which I can’t speak of in today’s article. However, I want to talk about two of its features I believe it’s useful for Bible Study. It’s the “Streaks” and “Version compare” features.

The streaks feature checks your daily app usage so you can become addicted to connecting with God’s Word daily. And the version comparison feature enables you to view two versions of one scripture at the same time.

With the version comparison feature, you can only activate it by viewing the app in landscape view when you rotate your phone. And then, click on the third top-right icon to select another version to compare scriptures.
