Humble Yourself Under God’s Mighty Hand

Humility is a very significant virtue in the kingdom of God. In fact, it’s so essential that God depends on it to exalt anybody in His kingdom. 1 Peter 5:6-7 NKJV says,

[6] “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, [7] casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

So from the above verse, the two main reasons you should humble yourself under God’s mighty hand are first, for your kingdom exaltation, and second, because He cares for you.

God will meet your needs

Whenever God exalts a person, extraordinary things begin to happen in his life. Many desires, even long-term dreams, get fulfilled within a short space of time. And because several people desire to be in such positions in their lives, the devil chips anxiety into their minds through impatience to see God meet their desires. Today, several spinsters do all kinds of evil things, all in the name of attracting bachelors to marry. On the other hand, many bachelors are also committing fornication, all in the name of satisfying their selfish sexual pleasures.

Although more sins stem deeply from inner dissatisfaction, I’ve realised that everything that makes people anxious is unmet needs. That is why there are so many backbiting and internal fights among some believers today. Mundane things are taking over our thought patterns, which is wrong.

Set your mind on things above

Colossians 3:2-3 NKJV says,

[2] “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. [3] For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

Your life got hidden with Christ in God since the moment you got born again. And if that is so, then God has full responsibility to meet your needs every time in your life. However, God knows that there’s a possibility of His people turning their minds off Him to seek mundane things. And that is why He inspired Apostle Paul to pen down Colossians 3:2-3 to set our minds on things above. But how? Mainly by prayer.

Philippians 4:6 NKJV (boldface mine) says,

[6] “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;”

The way to deal with the anxiety of not getting your needs met is to pray unto the sovereign God to meet your needs.

There is nothing God cannot provide for you

There is nothing God cannot provide for you. What you’ve been thinking about so much that it has started to give you pain, cast them to the Lord today.

God has never run short of resources. He knows what you need. Nevertheless, He’s both your Father and leader. Every father provides for his family, but every leader, beyond provision, knows when and what to supply at every moment to see the vision in focus moving forward.

Before God brought you to the Earth, He had the blueprint for your life. That is why He’s your guide. He knows when to supply each need when you ask Him because He doesn’t want to give you something you cannot manage by His grace. And that’s why you shouldn’t worry about your life.

Your life got hidden with Christ in God since the moment you got born again. And if that is so, then God has full responsibility to meet your needs every time in your life.

How Jesus demonstrated humility

Jesus demonstrated the highest form of humility when He came to the Earth. He was (and still is) fully God. But He considered it not robbery to be equal with God. So He made Himself of no reputation, humbled Himself and obeyed the Father’s commands, even to the death on the cross (see Philippians 2:5-8). What great humility!

If we’re called in Christ to conform to the image of His Son (see Romans 8:29), then it’s possible to mimic that lifestyle of Jesus described in Philippians 2:5-8 as a way of practising how to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand.

Make yourself of no reputation

Your reputation refers to what people say about you. But your integrity refers to how you see yourself holistically. Jesus didn’t throw away His integrity, but He took off his reputation (see Philpians 2:7). He knew who He was, so He didn’t need to prove His worth to anybody.

Hence, as a way of humbling yourself under God’s mighty hand, care less about what others think of you and anchor your identity in the Lord. You’ll then live a stress-free life devoid of pressure to fit into society’s expectations.

Lastly, remember that God rewards those who intentionally humble themselves before Him. Trust in the Lord to perfect everything concerning your life (Psalm 138:8), step by step, in His own time clock for your life. Just move on in faith. It is well with you.
